Cryosurgery is a safe, minimally invasive procedure which uses extreme cold to destroy benign skin lesions, warts and small tumours without traditional cutting or general anaesthesia.
Temperatures around -85C are used to freeze the area causing it to die and naturally fall off after around 7 to 14 days.
Because the extreme cold instantly numbs the sensory nerves, these procedures can be performed without a general anaesthetic and is usually painless although some patients may feel slight discomfort initially.
The procedure involves the vet directing a jet of extremely cold liquid nitrogen onto the lesion. In some cases, a second treatment may be necessary within 4 weeks of the first treatment.
